"YouTube Content ID: Audio Fingerprinting & Monetization Guidelines"
How YouTube Content ID works through DistroVibe, the 100% exclusive rights rule, which content is ineligible, and the fees for ineligible submissions.
YouTube Content ID is YouTube's automated fingerprinting system for detecting, claiming, and monetizing copyrighted sound recordings across the platform.
When Content ID is enabled for a release in DistroVibe (it is part of Additional delivery and switched on by default for eligible releases), a reference file for your audio is delivered to YouTube. Videos uploaded by YouTube users, including Shorts, are checked against these references. When a match is found, a claim is placed and the resulting ad revenue is credited to your DistroVibe wallet.
The 100% Exclusive Rights Requirement
Content ID is a rights enforcement tool, not a standard store delivery. To enroll a track, you must own and control 100% of the exclusive rights to both the underlying composition (publishing) and the master sound recording.
Leased Beats & Non-Exclusive Licenses: If you leased or bought a beat from an online marketplace (such as BeatStars) under a non-exclusive license, you cannot enable Content ID for that track. Other creators using the same instrumental would be claimed, creating false ownership disputes.
Claims vs. Copyright Strikes: When Content ID detects your song in a video (even on your own channel), it places a claim. A claim is not a copyright strike: it does not hurt the channel's standing; it asserts rights and collects advertising revenue on your behalf.
Allowlisting Channels: If you do not want your own YouTube channel (or a partner's channel) to receive claims on your catalog, send the YouTube Channel ID to DistroVibe support and ask for it to be allowlisted.
YouTube Music Pairing
YouTube links Content ID references to the sound recording delivered for YouTube Music (the Art Track). Keep YouTube Music selected as a store when you enable Content ID.
Eligible Content
To qualify for Content ID, tracks must meet all of the following:
100% Original Audio: Self-composed, self-produced, and exclusively owned recordings.
Full Exclusive Ownership: Complete control over the master recording, vocal performances, melodies, and lyrics.
Ineligible Content
The following audio types must not be enrolled in Content ID:
AI-Generated or AI-Assisted Audio: Tracks containing synthesized voices, generative AI stems, or AI-generated instrumentals (e.g., Suno, Udio). Content ID is not available for releases marked as AI-assisted.
Non-Exclusive Loops & Stock Audio: Content using non-exclusive sample libraries, DAW sound packs (Splice, Looperman, Apple Loops, standard DAW content), royalty-free beats, or sound effects.
Leased Instrumentals: Third-party beats licensed to multiple artists.
Cover Versions & Soundalikes: Cover songs, re-recordings, karaoke tracks, "type beats", and sound-alike imitations, even when a mechanical licence is in place.
Public Domain & Traditional Material: Compositions with expired copyrights (such as classical works), speeches, or traditional arrangements.
Compilations & Mixes: Continuous DJ sets, continuous mixtapes, podcast cuts, speech recordings, or repackaged multi-artist tracks.
Gameplay, Media & Software Audio: Audio taken from video games, trailers, films, or television broadcasts.
Ambient & Nature Sounds: White noise, nature or field recordings, generic environmental sound effects, or meditation drones without a distinctive melody.
Duplicate Fingerprints: Audio already registered in Content ID by another distributor, publisher, or rights administrator.
Account Compliance & Penalties
Submitting ineligible material to Content ID breaches YouTube's policies and DistroVibe's Content ID terms. DistroVibe may charge a fee of up to €100 per ineligible track, and repeated or serious abuse can lead to withheld royalties, removal of Content ID access, or termination of your account.
