Can I Release Instrumental/Ambient Music?

How to release instrumental and ambient music, set the track language to Instrumental, and why ambient is not eligible for Content ID.

Yes. DistroVibe distributes instrumental, beat, drone and ambient releases to streaming services and download stores.

Setting up instrumental tracks

  1. Set the language to Instrumental: In the Track Details step, choose Instrumental (No Lyrics) in the Language dropdown.
  2. Apply it to every track: Set this for each instrumental track. You can use the bulk language option to apply it to all tracks at once.
  3. Leave the lyrics field empty: Lyrics are optional. Do not enter placeholder text such as "Instrumental" or "None".

Important rules for ambient and instrumental releases

  • Sample clearance: If your track uses third-party loops, film dialogue, recordings of broadcasts or other samples, you need commercial clearance. If our review team needs proof, your release status changes to Needs Docs and you upload it in the release's Documents tab.
  • Content ID and Meta Rights Manager: Ambient releases are not eligible for YouTube Content ID or Meta Rights Manager. Tracks built on royalty-free loops or non-exclusive instrumentals are not eligible either. Turn these off in the Additional Delivery section of the release wizard.
