If your release uses an instrumental leased or purchased from an external producer, maintaining proper licensing documentation ensures your track clears review without delay and avoids copyright disputes.

Understanding Beat Lease Agreements

A Beat Lease Agreement grants you legal permission to record your vocals over an instrumental and distribute the resulting song. The original producer retains ownership of the underlying instrumental composition.

  • Exclusive Licenses: You hold the sole commercial rights to the instrumental under the agreed terms; the producer cannot lease or sell the same beat to other creators.

  • Non-Exclusive Licenses: The producer retains the right to license the exact same instrumental to multiple artists simultaneously.

Standard lease contracts (such as those from BeatStars, Traktrain, or direct producer invoices) often include specific limits regarding:

  • Stream & Sale Thresholds: Capped total streams, physical copies, or digital downloads allowed under that tier.

  • Term Validity: A fixed duration for the license (e.g., 2 to 5 years) before renewal is required.

  • Performance & Broadcast Rights: Specific permissions regarding radio play, live performances, or sync placements.

Crucial: Content ID & Rights Management Rules

If you hold a non-exclusive beat lease, you must not enroll the track into YouTube Content ID or Meta Rights Manager.

Because multiple artists may be using the identical backing instrumental, submitting non-exclusive beats creates false automated copyright strikes and claim collisions against other legitimate licensees.

Submitting Your Beat Agreement to DistroVibe

To ensure smooth processing through our Quality Control (QC) pipeline:

  1. Attach Your Agreement: Upload a PDF or screenshot of your lease agreement, invoice, or producer contract directly within the release uploader.

  2. Support Verification: If our QC team flags the instrumental, submit your contract by opening a Needs Documentation ticket in your dashboard or emailing support@distrovibe.com.
