Managing Artist Profile Mapping & Release Separation

When a release is delivered to digital streaming platforms (DSPs) such as Spotify, Apple Music, and Deezer, automated indexing engines match the release metadata against existing artist profiles. If another creator shares your exact artist name, storefront algorithms can mistakenly group your music onto someone else’s page, assign another artist’s track to your catalog, or spin up an unintended duplicate profile.

Before submitting a fix, determine the exact profile status to ensure the stores route the update properly.

Step 1: Identify Profile Ownership

Open the artist profile where the mix-up occurred on Spotify or Apple Music and examine the discography:

  • Your song is on someone else’s profile: Scroll to the oldest release on the page. If the earliest catalog belongs to another artist, that profile belongs to them, and your new release was misdirected.

  • Another artist’s music is on your profile: If the earliest release is genuinely yours, the profile belongs to you, and an external release has landed on your page by mistake.

  • A duplicate profile was generated: If your song created a blank, unverified second profile instead of mapping to your existing verified page, a direct link reassignment is required.

Note on YouTube: For auto-generated YouTube Music Topic channels or Art Track routing issues, please refer to our dedicated guide: Resolving YouTube Music Topic Channel Conflicts.

Step 2: Submit a Profile Mapping Ticket via DistroVibe

Once you confirm the scenario, log into your account to initiate the update across DSP systems:

  1. Open your DistroVibe Dashboard and head to Support / Help Desk.

  2. Click New Ticket and select Metadata & Profile Mapping as the category.

  3. Provide the specific release details:

    • Release Title & UPC

    • Track Title & ISRC

  4. Select your specific issue:

    • Scenario A: My music appeared on another artist's profile (Provide your correct artist profile link/URI and the incorrect profile URL where the song currently appears).

    • Scenario B: Another artist's song appeared on my profile (Provide your verified profile link/URI and the specific external song/album URL that needs removal).

    • Scenario C: A new/duplicate profile was generated instead of using my existing page (Provide your active, verified profile URL/URI).

  5. Submit the ticket.

Processing Times & Verification

Once submitted, DistroVibe's operations team generates platform metadata override requests directly through partner ingestion feeds.

  • Turnaround Window: Most platforms (including Spotify and Apple Music) process separation requests within 2 to 5 business days, while some regional stores may take up to 7 business days.

  • Confirmation: Streaming networks do not dispatch confirmation webhooks when automated separation completes. We recommend monitoring your live DSP artist pages over the following days to confirm that your catalog has relocated successfully.
